The objective of the first ever students’ conference “Symposium and Workshop for Analytical Youth on Applied Mechanics (SWAYAM-2018)” is to provide a forum for young scientists, academicians, analysts, designers and practising engineers from around the nation to interact, exchange ideas and establish relationships in the core as well as interdisciplinary areas of Applied Mechanics, including theoretical, analytical, computational and experimental aspects, as well as modelling and analysis, design optimization, reliability assessment, instrumentation and product development besides setting directions for future growth.
ISAM is an all India registered body under “The Tamil Nadu Society Registration Act, 1975”. The society was registered on 17th October, 2016 and its registration number is 539/2016. The objective of the society is to advance the knowledge relating to Applied/Engineering Mechanics and in particular:
a. To foster the diffusion of useful knowledge pertaining to the science and engineering of Mechanics of Solids, Mechanics of Fluids, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Materials and Design Engineering amongst the members of the society. b. To bring together engineers and scientists engaged in any or all aspects of Applied Mechanics, for pooling the experiences and knowledge to solve technical problems of the society. c. To promote the intellectual welfare of the members of the society by organizing periodical meetings for discussing and publishing scientific papers on subjects connected with Applied Mechanics. d. To do all such other acts and things as may be necessary or desirable to further the objectives of the Society. After successful completion of INCAM-2017 at MNNIT Allahabad, ISAM is ready to organize its first students’ symposium SWAYAM-2018. For more details visit: http://www.isam2016.in/
Founded in 2004, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus, is one of four campuses of the university BITS Pilani. The location of campus is unique in the respect of scenic beauty and panoramic view of picturesque surrounding encompassing Zuari River, hillocks, waterways, forests and landscape. The fully residential campus, spreading over an area of 180 acres, is located in Zuarinagar, Goa. The Institute offers six B.E., six M.E. and five M.Sc. degree programs along with Ph.D. program under full time, part time, faculty development and Ph.D. aspirant schemes. Spacious Labs, state of art classrooms with soundproof acoustics, modern furniture, computer labs with Internet facility and Library define the infrastructural counters of the institution. The BITS Goa Campus has a BCCI-recognized cricket ground maintained by the Goa Cricket Association and a football ground maintained by Salgaocar F.C. The Department is offering programs at different levels namely B.E. (Mechanical Engineering), M.E. (Design Engineering) and Ph.D. At B.E. level, emphasis is laid on providing the opportunities to students so that they build upon their foundation of science and mathematics and acquire skills to solve real world problems. Students are also provided the opportunity to work on live projects at collaborating industry partners in the form of Practice School or work on advance research projects with faculty members in the form of a thesis. Research is carried out in the department at two levels: (i) Institute fellowship for fundamental problems, (ii) Externally sponsored projects for applied problems. The department also has a part-time Ph.D. scheme especially for working professionals in Industries or Academic Institutes. The department is well equipped with various laboratories, computational facilities and resources with wide range of hardware and software products to facilitate critical research.

The symposium will be held on 05 and 06 July, 2018. Two page extended abstracts are invited as primary submission in the subject areas of the topics mentioned on the right side (but are not limited to the topics specified). After the peer review and incorporation of suggested modifications by reviewers, authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit full length papers (4-6 pages). The extended abstracts will be published in SWAYAM-2018 proceedings and full papers will be provided in CDs/USB drives. In case of multiple authors, all of them will be awarded participation certificates only if all of them register and attend the conference. Otherwise, only the presenting author will get the certificate. Above are the important dates to look out for.
Full day workshops will be conducted on 04 July, 2018. These workshops will ignite interest and widen the exposure of young researchers regarding latest software and simulation techniques which are fruitful for modern day research in the field of Applied Mechanics. It will be one-day workshop consisting of 3-4 parallel sessions. Participant can register in any one workshop.
SWAYAM-2018 offers great opportunity for sponsoring organizations with special privileges for showcasing their products, services, technologies and solutions during the conference. Click the button bellow to have your name, logo and website links on SWAYAM-2018 website and banners. You will be provided space for advertising stalls at the conference venue as per the respective category and allowed to keep your brochures/product catalogues in the conference registration kit.
“YOUTH SCIENTIST AWARD”
(in any given category)
Five awards in each category: 1. Solid Mechanics, 2. Fluid Mechanics, 3. Biomedical engineering, 4. Material Science and 5. Design Engineering will be presented to researchers not exceeding the age of 30 years for publishing and presenting excellent research work in SWAYAM-2018. The authors who would like to be considered for the Analytical Youth Scientist Awards must submit the full- length papers within the deadline by writing “Analytical Youth Scientist Award in (category)” after the “Reference” section in the full-length paper and present the paper personally in the symposium. These papers will be send to distinguished faculty members of IISc/IITs/ NITs for review and evaluated on the basis of the full-length paper as well as oral presentation in the special sessions. The awards will only be distributed if sufficient number of papers are received in the respective category
